BORIS JOHNSON’S NORTHERN IRELAND BOAST SHOWS SCOTLAND IS BEING SHORT-CHANGED.
VOTE SNP TO ESCAPE BREXIT AND PUT SCOTLAND’S FUTURE IN SCOTLAND’S HANDS.
The SNP has issued a fresh demand for Scotland’s overwhelming vote to Remain to be respected after Boris Johnson praised the “great deal” proposed for Northern Ireland – but denied to Scotland.
Under Boris Johnson’s proposed deal, Scotland is the only country in the UK not to have their vote in the EU referendum respected or be given a special deal with a say over their future.
The Tory leader told an event: “Northern Ireland has got a great deal. You keep free movement, you keep access to the single market, but you also have unfettered access to the EU.”
The SNP has consistently argued that it is unfair for Scotland to be put at a competitive disadvantage.
SNP candidate Tommy Sheppard said:
“A vote for the SNP is a vote to escape Brexit and to put Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands – not Boris Johnson’s.
“Boris Johnson himself has demonstrated Scotland is being singled out for a raw deal – as the only country in the UK to be taken out of the EU against our will and given no say over our future relationship with Europe.
“The wishes of the people of Scotland – who voted more decisively than anywhere else to remain in the EU – are being ignored, and Scotland alone is facing an outcome it did not vote for with no say over our future.
“That is democratically unacceptable and makes a mockery of claims that the UK is a partnership of equals.
“We support the Good Friday Agreement in its entirety and are not opposed to a special deal for Northern Ireland but Scotland must not be placed at a competitive disadvantage.
“The case for an independent Scotland in Europe is now stronger than ever, and the people of Scotland must be given that choice.
