TAXPAYERS CASH THROWN DOWN DRAIN IN TORY NO-DEAL AD CAMPAIGN.
SHAMEFUL WASTE OF MONEY ON BREXIT SCOTLAND DIDN’T VOTE FOR?
The SNP has criticised Tory government plans to waste £100million of public funds on advertising a No-Deal Brexit – describing it as a “shameful waste of taxpayers’ cash”.
The reports that the UK government will waste the money, came as Chief Secretary to the Treasury Rishi Sunak MP told Sky News “We are turbo charging preparations for no deal and that is now the Government’s number one priority.”
Commenting, SNP Treasury spokesperson Alison Thewliss MP said:
“This is a shameful waste of taxpayers’ cash, which would be much better spent undoing some of the damage done by a decade of Tory cuts to social security and public services.
“Boris Johnson has no mandate in Scotland. We didn’t vote for Brexit and we didn’t vote for this Tory government. With public money being thrown down the drain, the Tories must explain why Scottish taxpayers are being forced to foot the bill for a Brexit we do not want.
“Yet again, Scotland is being completely ignored by Westminster and our interests are being side-lined. With 100,000 Scottish jobs under threat from a Tory Brexit, it’s no wonder that support for independence is growing and a majority of people want a fresh referendum.
“People in Scotland deserve the choice of a better future than the Brexit Britain being imposed on us by Westminster. It’s clearer than ever that the only way to properly protect Scotland’s interests is by becoming an equal and independent European country.”
