FAILING GRAYLING’ SLAMMED AGAIN FOR BOTCHED NO-DEAL BREXIT PREPARATIONS.
TORY NO-DEAL BREXIT PLANS SET TO COST TAX-PAYERS MORE MONEY
The SNP has slammed the Department for Transport (DfT) for its botched No-Deal Brexit preparations following the publication of a damning report by the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee.
The report found that UK government preparations for the UK leaving the EU on 31st October are not happening quickly enough, confirmed that Chris Grayling’s infamous ‘ship contract with no ships’ cost the taxpayer £85million, and dubbed the £33 million settlement with Eurotunnel ‘window-dressing’.
The SNP has warned that the Tories’ shambolic no-deal Brexit plans look set to continue – at a further cost to tax-payers. This week, Tussell, an organisation that monitors government contracts, revealed that the Tories are planning to spend another £3 million on an “express freight service” to ensure health care supplies after a no-deal Brexit, while the Road Haulage Association accused the Transport Secretary of trying to “silence’ their concerns about no-deal Brexit.
Commenting, Douglas Chapman, SNP MP and member of the Westminster Public Accounts Committee, said:
“This report is embarrassing for the Department for Transport who have shown a clear negligence in preparing the UK for Brexit – and the shambles looks set to continue at a further cost to taxpayers.
“The deal between Chris Grayling and ferry companies was a lame duck from the start and has cost tax-payers almost £85 million, yet the Tories are content to let him continue as UK Transport Secretary and continue down this reckless path that will cost millions of pounds more.
“This is another example of Tory incompetence and recklessness. Brexit will hit the pockets of people across Scotland and the rest of UK hard, but the Tories don’t seem to care as they continue to allow blunders like this to take even more money away from hard-working people.
“It is becoming clearer by the day that the only way to protect the interests and the incomes of the people in Scotland is for Scotland to be an independent member of the European Union.”
